Enriquecimiento de bosque nativo con ibira puita guazu - Peltophorum dubium SPRENG (Enrichment of native forests with Peltophorum dubium)

The objective of this paper is to determine the adaptability and growth potential of Peltophorum dubium in the high forests of the Humid Chaco region to restore the productive and economic value of native forests. The authors review the dispersion, growth habit and uses of ibira puita guazu and briefly review other growth studies. They installed and planted experimental plots of 0.5 and 1 ha (Lot V and Forest Station) as enrichment in a forest after silvicultural operations in 1990 and measured height and diameter five times and pruning and weeding were performed twice. After 13 years, in Lot V the average diameter growth was 1.2 cm/yr and the average height growth was 1.2 m/yr. Forest Station trees had an average diameter growth of 0.9 cm / yr and average height growth of 0.8 m/yr. With this data, the authors inferred that in the high altitude forests of the humid Chaco, ibira puita guazu has a short rotation of 20 years (diameter 45 cm; 100 individuals per hectare).

• El objetivo de este trabajo es determinar la adaptabilidad y potencial de crecimiento de Peltophorum dubium en los bosques altos de la región del Chaco Húmedo para restaurar el valor productivo y económico de los bosques nativos.
• Los autores escriben sobre la dispersión, hábito de crecimiento y usos de ibira puita guazu y revisan brevemente otros estudios de crecimiento.
