Reforestation with the Native Tree Alnus acuminata: Effects on Phytodiversity and Species Richness in an Upper Montane Rain Forest Area of Colombia

Background

This study takes place in the western cordillera in Colombia (Quindio). Upper montane forest is dominated by large Weinmannia (Alnus acuminata) plantations established from 1977-1978 on abandoned agricultural and grazing land (for erosion control), and secondary forest fragments that naturally colonized abandoned agricultural areas.

Effect of Vegetation Restoration on Soil and Water Erosion and Nutrient Losses of a Severely Eroded Clayey Plinthudult in Southeastern China

Background

In this study, researchers compare erosion from reforested and degraded sites in subtropical southeastern China.

Goals & Methods

The objective of the study was to estimate the long-term influences of reforestation on soil and water erosion and nutrient losses in regions of southeast China that are characterized by severely eroded bare land derived from Quaternary red clay. The study examined surface runoff, soil erosion, and soil nutrient content.

Recuperación estructural en bosques sucesionales andinos de Porce, Antioquia, Colombia (Structural recuperation in secondary successional Andean forests in Porce, Antioquia, Colombia)

Español

Antecedentes

Roteiro para elaboração de projetos de recuperação florestal para o Fundo Estadual de Recursos Hídricos - Fehidro (Guide for elaboration of forest recovery for the State Water Resources Fund - Fehidro)

This guide targets municipal governments, farmers, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders interested in water and forest resources restoration. The objective is to present a framework for understanding the most common cases in order to facilitate the decision-making and execution of forest restoration projects. Some of the addressed topics are: the basic structure of a restoration project, examples of forest restoration projects, forest restoration projects that include native species seedling production, a key for decision-making for the recovery of degraded areas, and a list of tree species with natural occurrence in São Paulo state.
