Daikin Industries Reforestation Project

Background

Daikin Industries Ltd., a Japanese based air-conditioning company, has been partnering with Conservation International (CI) to support the reforestation of a degraded area along the edges of the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park in Indonesia. The national park, which has some of the little remaining forest area on the island of Java, is a source of water for the cities of Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

The Lembo System: A Model for Agroforestry in Dipterocarp Forest Ecosystems of East Kalimantan

This article describes the Lembo system of agroforestry, a traditional practice by the Dayak people in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. In Lembo gardens, around 127 species of woody plants are cultivated, and up to 40 different species can be found per 0.25 ha 90% of which are trees. In those gardens, there is also a large diversity of wild, uncultivated plants.

One of these activities is a tropical reforestation project in the Republic of Indonesia, which began in 2005. This project mainly takes place in the Yogyakarta Special Province Wildlife Reserve Restoration and Recovery in Java.
