Contribution to the Restoration of Mixed Forests in Central Vietnam
Background
This article examines reforestation approaches for degraded forests in Central Vietnam and explores a forest management plan in Phong My.
Conclusions & Takeaways
The authors propose four management system alternatives that encourage mixed-species, mixed-aged stands while also discouraging the current slash-and-burn method. The suggested mixtures all combine the short rotation of Acacia mangium (5 years) with longer rotations of other valuable native tree species. The authors suggest that these methods are both inexpensive and viable options for restoring degraded lands in the region.
