Genesis Forest Project

Background

This is a project design document that describes the plan for a reforestation project in Brazilian Cerrado in the state of Tocantins, Brazil.

Goals & Approach

The goals of the project is to reforest 30 hectares with native cerrado species, sequester carbon, protect forests from fires, hire local labor in project implementation, form a fire brigrade, and increase education and capactiy in local villages. These objectives, which can be divided into forest objectives and social objectives, strive to link ecological needs with social needs in the region for a holistic approach.

The project was ultimately withdrawn in May 2011.
