Structure spatiale des arbres des savanes boisées et forêts claires soudaniennes : implication pour les enrichissements forestiers (Spatial structure of trees in forested savanna and Sudanian forests: implication for forest enrichment)

This article is concerned with modeling ideal spacial distributions of tree species in Benin. The authors suggest 3 meters as the ideal distance between trees of the same species, or 4.5 meters between trees of different species.

Habitat Distribution of Dipterocarp Species in the Leyte Cordillera: an Indicator for Species – Site Suitability in Local Reforestation Programs

Background

This article presents the results of a vegetation study in primary forest areas of Leyte, in vicinity of the case study site (near Mt. Pangasugan). It provides information on habitat distribution patterns and elevational ranges of dipterocarp species with the purpose of providing baseline data for ensuring species-site suitability for local reforestation programs.

Ecological Restoration of Red Sanders (Pterocarpus santalinus L.) Forests – An Adaptive Collaborative Modelling Supported Approach

Background

Red Sanders (Pterocarpus santalinus L.) is an endemic and endangered  tree species in souther India that is highly valued for its timber uses. Both anthropogenic and abiotic factors have led to the fragmentation and degradation of the Red sanders habitat. This project, which took place in Eastern Ghats: Kadapa, Southern Andhra Pradesh in July 2011, seeks to understand Red Sanders forest and explore the possibility for restoration.

Catalago preliminar de la flora vascular de los bosques subandinos de la Cuchilla el Fara, Santander–Colombia (Preliminary catalogue of vascular plants of the sub-andean forests of Cuchilla el Fara, Santander-Colombia)

Español

antecedentes

A review of the floral composition and distribution of mangroves in Sri Lanka

Background

The article reviews literature on the numbers and distributions of Sri Lankan mangrove species and highlights the causes of overestimation. It also attempts to provide an accurate count based on standardized fieldwork over a 4-year period along the coast between Palatupana and Puttalam, Sri Lanka. The authors name some examples of mischaracterized or misidentified species from previous studies and address the importance of clearly defining the terms for mangroves.

Reforestation with the Native Tree Alnus acuminata: Effects on Phytodiversity and Species Richness in an Upper Montane Rain Forest Area of Colombia

Background

This study takes place in the western cordillera in Colombia (Quindio). Upper montane forest is dominated by large Weinmannia (Alnus acuminata) plantations established from 1977-1978 on abandoned agricultural and grazing land (for erosion control), and secondary forest fragments that naturally colonized abandoned agricultural areas.

Identifying Fast-Growing Native Trees from the Neotropics using Data from a Large, Permanent Census Plot

background

This paper results from data collected over a decade from 160 trees in a 50 ha plot in BCI Panama.

Research Goals & Methods

Growth in dbh was calculated and a projection (trajectory) was estimated for the life of the tree (using regression).

Apuntes sobre algunas especies forestales nativas de la sierra Peruana (Notes about several forest native species from the highlands of Peru)

Español

Antecedentes

Antecedentes
