Desde 1860, la reforestación en la Sierra Peruana se realizó principalmente con Eucalipto, cambiando a Pinus radiata durante las décadas de 1950-1970. La necesidad de reforestar tierras mas elevadas, despertó el interés por la propagación y uso de especies forestales nativas las cuales se encuentran mejor adaptadas a estas condiciones y presentan diversos usos y beneficios.

Development of Soilless Culture Methods for Production of Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) Root and Leaf Biomass

Moringa is a valuable tropical agroforestry species with a fruit rich in nutrients. This study tested soilless (hydroponic) Moringa cultivation methods given that past research on tissue culture (vegetative reproduction) has shown difficulty in transfer to soil.

In this study, dehulled seeds had a high germination rate (65%), whereas hulled seeds had low germination.

Timber Investment Returns for Selected Plantations and Native Forests in South America and the Southern United States

This study examines the value of timber investments in South America. Exotic Eucalyptus in the southern cone (Argentina + Chile) are the most profitable, with Internal Rate of Return of 13-23%, followed by exotic loblolly pine (Pinus taeda), whereas investments in the southeast USA is less profitable.
